Project Overview
Detective DeDe is a 2D point-and-click adventure game set in an alternate 1800s Australia. Designed specifically for older adults and beginners, the game combines intellectual challenge and fun as players solve a mystery as detective DeDe Anansi.
My Work
Project Management: Led a cross-functional team, managing timelines, resources, and milestones to ensure successful project completion.
Game Design: Developed core mechanics inspired by classic point-and-click adventure games, with a focus on intuitive gameplay for older users.
UX/UI Design: Designed an accessible interface with simple controls suited to the needs of older adults, ensuring ease of use despite potential mobility or cognitive challenges.
Prototyping: Tested various control schemes and interfaces through prototyping and user testing.
Marketing & Business Development: Managed marketing efforts including branding, trailers, blogs, and the game’s website. Oversaw business development and product positioning.
Outcome
Detective DeDe received funding from the South Australian Film Corporation and was one of five projects selected for development in South Australia.
The game launched and combined accessibility with engaging gameplay, showcasing the potential for video games designed for older adults.
Learnings
This project deepened my understanding of designing for accessibility, managing creative projects, and balancing technical and creative aspects in game development. It was a rewarding experience working with a small, passionate team to bring this concept to life.
