Project Overview
The Fuel Exchange is a web application integrated into the IlluviDEX, where players can buy and sell three types of fuel: Solon, Crypton, and Hyperion. These fuels are used in Illuvium Overworld for tasks such as crafting, curing, and travelling, and are harvested by players in Illuvium Zero. The exchange allows players to trade excess fuel they don’t need in-game with other players.
My Work
From Technical to User-Centric Design: I took high-level technical requirements from the CTO and distilled them into a clear information architecture, feature set, user stories, and detailed designs. This included the creation of key pages:
Exchange Page: Facilitated buying and selling fuel, with a focus on user-friendly interactions.
Fuel Bundles: Designed the page for purchasing fuel in bundles.
Fuel Orders Page: Created a section for players to view and track all their fuel orders.
Onboarding & Guides: Developed an onboarding experience and guide to help players understand how to engage with the Fuel Exchange.
Fuel Crates: Designed the process for claiming fuel crates, rewards for loyal landholders.
Ledger: Built a full-fledged ledger for tracking transactions and audits, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Basic Mode for Beginners: To cater to new players, I designed a simplified "basic" mode for the Fuel Exchange. This mode allows players to easily purchase fuel without needing to navigate advanced features, providing a streamlined experience for beginners.
Iterative Improvements: After the MVP launch, we quickly iterated based on user feedback. One of the key areas of focus was enhancing clarity around price-per-fuel metrics, which became a significant discussion point within the community.
Outcome
The Fuel Exchange launched successfully as a streamlined marketplace for fuel trading, providing players with a user-friendly interface to buy and sell fuel. Ongoing iterations, driven by user feedback, helped refine key interactions, particularly around pricing transparency. The exchange became an integral part of the IlluviDEX ecosystem, facilitating smoother gameplay in Illuvium Overworld.
Learnings
This project was a rewarding challenge, requiring me to take abstract, high-level technical requirements and transform them into a coherent, user-facing product. I learned the importance of clear communication between technical and design teams and how to balance technical constraints with user needs. Additionally, the fast-paced iteration process reinforced the value of user feedback in refining and improving a product post-launch.
