Project Overview
Illuvium: Zero is an immersive city-building game set within the Illuvium universe, available on both mobile and desktop. Players manage resources, construct advanced buildings, and research Illuvials to unlock exclusive blueprints, combining strategic gameplay with in-depth city management.
My Work
Redesigning UX/UI: When I joined the team, Illuvium: Zero was a mobile-only game with an initial UI design. As part of the preparation for Open Beta, the game’s scope expanded to include both desktop and mobile platforms. I was tasked with redesigning the entire UX/UI, ensuring the design aligned with the new visual style and functioned seamlessly across both platforms.
Desktop Adaptation: Developed desktop variations for all screens, scaling designs from mobile to desktop form factors, and adapting key interactions to suit the new format.
Feature Design: Worked with product managers and game designers to implement new features, including navigation enhancements, goal systems, power system visualizations for power generators, and a marketplace for trading fuel and resources.
New UX Elements: Designed animations to guide players, added path indicators, reworked the goals menu, created the megacity feature for combining plots, and improved the visualization of path growth bonuses and efficiency across structures.
Ongoing Collaboration: Collaborated with developers to audit and refine designs throughout the development process, ensuring consistency and usability.
Outcome
Successfully reworked the UX/UI for both mobile and desktop platforms, adapting the game’s design to new requirements and ensuring consistency across devices.
Introduced new features that improved gameplay and enhanced player experience, particularly for Open Beta.
Delivered a scalable and intuitive design, maintaining functionality while offering a refined visual aesthetic.
Learnings
Working on Illuvium: Zero taught me the nuances of scaling design across different platforms, and how desktop interactions open new opportunities that aren’t possible on mobile. Balancing platform-specific trade-offs helped me understand the importance of flexibility in cross-platform game design.
