Project Overview
Battle in the Beyond (BITB) is a PvP companion game integrated with Illuvium: Beyond, where players engage in D1SK-opening battles. The content of a player’s D1SK determines the outcome of the match. The game features modes such as "winner takes all" wagers, a free-to-play option, and an upcoming tournament mode. BITB is similar in concept to CS: GO skin-opening battle sites, combining unpredictability and competition.
As the third member of LizardLabs, following the CEO and COO, I was entrusted with bringing the CEO's vision to life and defining the product's design from concept to launch.
My Work
Product Design Leadership: Defined the core UX/UI design based on the CEO’s vision and saw the project through from concept to completion as Lead Designer. My role involved creating the entire user experience, from in-game mechanics to the user interface, ensuring an engaging and intuitive player journey.
LizPass Design: Designed the purchasing flow and marketing for LizPass, a premium offering similar to a battle pass, integrating it seamlessly into the BITB ecosystem.
Funding & Team Growth: My designs and product work for BITB were pivotal in helping LizardLabs raise funding and recruit a team, marking the next phase of the studio’s growth.
Cross-Product Integration: Collaborated closely with developers to ensure smooth integration with Illuvium: Beyond, allowing players to use their D1SK content across both games, which expanded the value proposition for the Illuvium universe.
End-to-End Process: Led the design process across all stages, from user research and prototyping to testing and final implementation, while iterating on feedback from stakeholders and early users.
Outcome
Successfully launched a game with innovative cross-game asset integration, which has been well-received by the community.
Helped LizardLabs secure seed funding and expand its team based on the strength of BITB’s designs.
LizPass became a core offering, providing an additional revenue stream and enhancing player engagement through premium content.
