Illuvium
Game UX/UI, Web UX/UI
2022
Project Overview
Illuvium: Beyond is a dynamic and competitive collectible card game where players collect and showcase their Illuvitars. The game offers players multiple ways to engage, including collecting cards, unlocking rare Illuvitars, and tracking their progress through the Beyond Album. The game also incorporates layers of strategy with power ratings, fusing mechanics, and customisations to enhance each Illuvitar's value.
My Work
Sales Pages & Information Architecture: Designed the UX and information architecture for the Wave 1 and Wave 2 sales pages, ensuring a seamless user journey for purchasing D1SKs and viewing collections.
Beyond Album & D1SK Purchasing: Defined the initial UX for the album and D1SK purchasing system when it launched in 2022. My work included creating interactions that allowed players to easily organise their collections and visualise progress across the album.
2024 UX/UI Redesign: Recently led a full UX and UI overhaul of the Beyond Album, focusing on:
Enhanced Visuals: Worked closely with artists to design a more visually striking album layout, maximising the display of art assets to showcase Illuvitars in a more engaging way.
New Features: Implemented features based on community feedback, including album-wide filling options, better milestone visibility, and clearer progress tracking through a circle gauge system.
Progress Visualisation: Created the My Progress section to give players a detailed overview of their collection milestones, D1SK purchases, and rewards.
Milestones & Rewards: Designed a clear, intuitive system that displays collection milestones and the rewards associated with completing them, making achievements and rewards more prominent to players.
Outcome
The redesign resulted in a more immersive and visually engaging experience for players, improving how they track their progress and interact with their collections. The new features and enhanced layouts addressed key community concerns and created a more user-friendly experience that encourages players to engage deeply with the game’s mechanics.
Learnings
Balancing aesthetics with usability was a core challenge for this project. I learned how to incorporate fun, interactive elements like "juice" to enhance the player’s sense of achievement, while ensuring that the interface remains functional and clear. Collaborating with game designers to integrate power mechanics into visual elements was also a valuable experience, allowing me to explore the relationship between gameplay and interface design.
